New Patron Announced
The Right Honourable Lady Rose of Colmworth, DBE

We are very pleased and honoured to welcome The Right Honourable Lady Rose of Colmworth, DBE, PC as a patron of the Fund. Dame Vivien Rose is one of the most senior judges in the UK and was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court in 2021.

Vivien Rose was appointed a Justice of the UK Supreme Court on 19 April 2021, following a distinguished career spanning private practice, government service, and the senior judiciary.

She read law at Newnham College, Cambridge before completing postgraduate studies at Brasenose College, Oxford. Called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 1984, she practised at Monckton Chambers for a decade, specialising in competition and public law. In 1992, she was appointed Standing Counsel to the Director General of Fair Trading.

In 1995, Lady Rose moved into public service, joining the Government Legal Service as a legal adviser on financial services at HM Treasury. She later joined the Senior Civil Service, serving as Director of Operational and International Humanitarian Law at the Ministry of Defence. Between 2005 and 2008, she was seconded to the Office of Counsel to the Speaker of the House of Commons, advising on parliamentary legal matters.

Her judicial career began in 2006 with her appointment as a fee-paid Chairman of the Competition Appeal Tribunal. She went on to hold a number of tribunal roles and was appointed a Recorder on the South Eastern Circuit in 2010. In May 2013, she was sworn in as a High Court Judge in the Chancery Division. From 2015 to 2018, she served as President of the Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery Chamber), and was also a nominated judge of the Financial List from its inception.

Lady Rose was appointed to the Court of Appeal in January 2019, before joining the Supreme Court two years later.
